As I wandered around Kathmandu’s streets with my camera in hand, I was struck by the city’s diversity. The streets were a tumultuous jumble of colors and sounds, with vendors selling anything from veggies to toys.
I photographed people going about their regular lives, such as youngsters playing in the streets, parents carrying children on their shoulders or backs to school,
and individuals crossing roads on zebra crossings and walking on the footpath. The natives’ faces were engraved with resolve and tiredness, but also with a trace of a smile.
The streets of Kathmandu were a never-ending source of inspiration and wonder. Each corner held a new story,
I decided to collaborate with Ms. Aayushma Khatri a few days after I photographed the streets of Kathmandu. She created a beautiful poem called “Sadak,” which means “street,” and I tried to add emotion to it by using film snippets.
