Mi Pwa Lakhe

The Mi Pwa Lakhe, a traditional masked dance of Yala in Lalitpur, Nepal, has a rich and fascinating history. This dance was once a major attraction and a symbol of celebration, marking the end of the farming season and the dispersal of negative energies during the Gathyamuga festival.

However, with the passage of time and changing circumstances, the dance form faced many challenges and almost disappeared completely. The lack of encouragement and incentives for the artists made it difficult for the tradition to continue.

But, in recent times, a dedicated group of individuals, led by Guru Uttamratna Shakya and the youthful members of Yala Lyaku Mipwa Lakhe:Pucho, have taken the initiative to revive this magnificent dance form. They have been training and performing the dance, bringing it back to life for the people of Nepal.

Although there are still some missing elements in the dance, with continuous training and dedication, the group aims to make the Mi Pwa Lakhe a well-accepted and popular masked dance form once again. The revival of this traditional dance form not only keeps the rich cultural heritage of Nepal alive but also provides an opportunity for the younger generation to connect with their roots and learn about their cultural heritage.

In conclusion, the Mi Pwa Lakhe is a testament to the resilience and determination of the Nepalese people to keep their traditions alive and pass them on to future generations. With the continued support and encouragement, this dance form will surely reach new heights and become a source of pride for the people of Nepal.
